“Born and bred on the East Coast I guess you can say that, in some ways, I tend to see LA through that filter. Part critic, part New Yorker, overall skeptic and yet, I have come to embrace and love LA for all that the East Coast is not. Something happened to me here in LA, a place often consumed with facade and illusion, with becoming and having, ironically is the place that taught me how to see, how to be myself, make art, raise a family and create a home. On the surface LA is a Mirage/Espejismo, toying and playing with our values, but lurking just beneath is a world that holds the breath of this city with all its complexity, irony and natural beauty.”
Ms. Kimmel lives and works in Los Angeles. Her works have shown in numerous New York and Los Angeles galleries; she has created activated sculptural installations for the Scottsdale Museum of Fine Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. She has contributed to Vogue, W, Paper Magazine, Surface and Art Forum. Her work begins with drawing and she is inspired by a cross-pollination of symbols, nature, language and early cognitive development. She recently teamed with Fendi to design a handbag for the 10th Anniversary of the Fendi Baguette; her work is currently on view in “Renaissance” an exhibition curated by Blair Foltz Clarke for Salvadore Ferragamo in New York.
